NYE Garb, Grub & Shenanigans

If you read my earlier New Year’s Eve fashion post, you know how much I was looking forward to channeling my inner femme fatale for NYE in this Dolce & Gabbana-inspired outfit; however, a last minute change of plans–a trip to Brooklyn to meet up with old friends and attend the prohibition-themed Bootleggers’ Ball–incited a 1920’s twist on the sultry style.

Nasty Gal Fleur Lace Bustier / H&M Floral Stretch Pencil Skirt / Boutique 9 Neon Coral Justine Pump here & here / Vintage Pearl Strand (similar here)

Chris and I shot the above impromptu photo shoot in our the stairwell of our Brooklyn Airbnb apartment (sans 20’s boa and headpiece). I still can’t believe the whole look came together for less than $150!

Then, we headed to around the corner to meet up with friends at Dino Restaurant in Fort Greene for cocktails and rustic Italian fare. Feed me creamy beretta, veal meatballs and a stiff rye Manhattan, and I’m a happy gal!

After stuffing myself with as much delicious food as was physically possible given the space restrictions of my form-fitted skirt (sooo wished I had remembered to pack Spanx!), it was time to brave the frigid cold and walk over to the Bootleggers’ Ball, held in a nearby converted church.

It was also time to add our 1920’s touches. Earlier in the day, we scouted handmade peacock feather and vintage crystal headbands in Park Slope at Guvnor’s Vintage Apparel–a treasure trove of vintage and retro goodies!

The event space, Irondale center, was transformed into a swinging speakeasy; curvy cabaret singers took the stage, burlesque performers shimmied across the dance floor, a sword swallower had the crowd watching with bated breath and the sexy vixen Ivory Fox defied gravity from a suspended hoop while Hot Shim Sham, a 13-piece orchestra, played period tunes.

Looking forward to a fresh year ripe with unexplored potential, rich with boundless possibilities and jam packed with blog posts! Bring on 2014!
