SF Ballet’s 81st Opening Night Gala Phenomenal Onstage and Off

I’ve been infatuated with the ballet since I was a little girl attending Boston Ballet performances with Ms. Michelle, my local dance instructor. Needless to say, I was more than a tad excited about attending the San Francisco Ballet’s 81st Opening Night Gala. I was also excited to finally take the tags off this storm cloud grey Z Spoke Zac Posen gown I bought on Gilt Groupe last year. I decided to balance the modern cutouts in the trumpet-style gown with an old Hollywood glamour aesthetic; crystal, art deco RTR accessories, a strong violet lip and romantic Veronica Lake finger waves rounded out the look.

The festivities began early yesterday evening at the Encore Gala pre-show cocktail at City Hall. When it was time for the show to start, Chris and I joined the tuxedo and ball gown-clad patrons pouring out onto Van Ness, nearly shutting down the avenue as we crossed from City Hall to the War Memorial Opera House. The performance was nothing short of rapturing, alternating between classics like Giselle to stirring contemporary pieces to sensual duets like “Bedroom Pas de Deux.” When the curtain fell onstage, we migrated back to City Hall to celebrate into the early morning hours with live music, dancing and desert. I don’t know of any other city that rallies around the arts with so much gusto and style!

Onto the “Phenomenal” Gala Performance…

& back to City Hall for the after party!

…when the 2 a.m. stars in the sky were fading faster than my glistening accessories, it was time to catch a cab and bid adieu!
