A relaxed ensemble for the Poolside patriot this fourth

Fourth of July has always been a favorite holiday of mine. When I was a growing up outside Boston, it was a big family bash that signified the official start of summer, and, as a young adult living in Charleston, it was a weekend long party that rotated from the bars of downtown Charleston to the white sand of Folly Beach. This year, I’m looking forward to a long, wine-soaked weekend with my parents and hubby in Healdsburg, a charming town in the heart of Sonoma County. (Check out the piece I recently wrote on Healdsburg for the Chronicle’s SFiStyle here)

While only an hour or so away, Healdsburg has notably warmer weather than San Francisco. Basically everywhere around the city of San Francisco has warmer weather, but, in this case, I’m talking a dramatic climb of 20-30 degrees. I love the heat and can’t wait to soak it all up–hence my peekaboo bikini look below.

A white knotted button down always looks smart, and I thought the red bikini top peaking out had a hint of retro Americana glam that almost made me want to solute! The chic blue and white, high-waisted palazzo pants are courtesy of Funky Flair Boutique, an Atlanta-based fashion boutique with a fantastic online shop–think on-trend looks at reasonable prices. I had the chance to meet Funky Flair Boutique’s darling owner Kesha at the Lucky FABB conference in LA this April!

Overall, I love this look because it’s so comfortable and versatile–I could sport it at the pool all morning with sandals and then slip on some espadrilles and head to a nice lunch in the afternoon.

Star Spangled Style

Red, white & fab-blue-ous: 40 Patriotic pieces for the 4th of July

If Halloween is the one day a year a girl can, “dress like a total slut and no other girls can say anything about it,” then the Fourth of July is the one day a year you can wear the American flag on your clothes and no one can call you a hick.

This Fourth, you can find me singing the star spangled banner in Sonoma, where I’ll be watching fireworks and enjoying the long weekend with my family.  What will I wear? Well, nnothing says American like cut off blue jean shorts, a white tee and American red wine, cut-off blue jean shorts a white tee.

Check out all my Fourth of July fashion picks in the slideshow above.
